"Celandines down the lane" is a view of the lane where we live in Springtime.

I love to walk the lane every day and watch as it changes through the seasons. There are so many species of native wildflowers that grow here. Winter 2020/2021 was so prolonged and cold that everything emerged much later. By early April, I spotted sweet violets, ground ivy, primroses, and glowing above everything are the shiny yellow faces of the celandines (Ficaria verna), putting on such a lovely sunny show.

This is ultimately a painting about hope.
